Dr Liew ZheYi

Founder and CEO

ZheYi is a Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician with more than 15 years of experience practising as a medical doctor. His medical journey began in 2006 when he earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBCHB) degree at the University of Glasglow. In 2011, he achieved the Paediatric Specialist status by obtaining the Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH, UK). In 2019, he completed his grid training (CCST Paediatric and Paediatric Respiratory) in Great North Children’ Hospital (5 Stars Outstanding Hospital) Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. With the passion and eagerness to learn new knowledge, he has recently passed his PhD viva as he pursued an academic higher research degree, Doctor of Philosophy, PhD at Newcastle University, UK. His management interests include the training of junior doctors, management of hospital safety culture, and currently holding Associate Clinical Lecturer’s position at Newcastle University since 2015. ZheYi is presently the deputy chair of the board of governors of Newcastle Chinese School and the AZ Preschool CEO.

With his strong background of knowledge and experience in the medical care of children, he is also the AZ Preschool child development consultant. His expertise in child development and belief in the holistic care of children have significantly contributed to the operation, the framework of curriculum and programme in A-Z.

In his current capacity as Chief Executive Officer, he provides leadership for all strategic, financial and business aspects of the company. As a leader of the company, he builds and models an excellent company culture. He is instrumental to the development of the company where he makes high-level decision about policy and strategy, advise the board of directors and set a course for company strategy to ensure the success of the business.

Jacky Chow Yee Pang

Head of Operations

Jacky is a qualified early childhood educator with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, major in Special Education. Knowing the importance of keeping himself up-to-date and gaining specialised knowledge to advance in the industry, he is currently pursuing his Master degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of Malaya.

His career in the education industry started in 2005. In the last 16 years, he has worked in various teaching roles, including specialist children play therapist, until he moved up the ladder and held different management roles. His management experience included senior executive, vice-principal, part-time lecturer at Dika College, and project manager in which he led the transformation of several traditional kindergartens in KL. His career highlights include successfully implementing in-house teachers’ training, parents’ workshop, monthly Family Day and Open Day, and setting up a learning lab in a preschool

In his current capacity, Jacky oversees daily activities across functions such as finance, centre operations, company event planning, licensing model, HQ corporate governance and legal compliance. As a responsible leader with an analytical and strategic mind, he formulates the AZ business strategy with others in the executive team. He is committed to productivity and compliance with his core responsibilities include designing the company’s standard operating policies and procedures for direct owned- centres and licensees. He reports regularly to the company CEO on operational performance and suggests improvements on the business’s day-to-day running to ensure alignment with the organisational objectives.

Vincs Kong Yansean

Head of Sales & Marketing

Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies with a major in International Business Management, he started off his career in the financial services industry specialises in providing financial consulting and laying out suitable financial plans to assist clients in reaching their financial goals. He has picked up a good deal of sales professionalism along the way, which has made him a good marketer in his later career.

As a big fan of business marketing, Vincs expanded his portfolio into the marketing field in 2005. He made a quick climb to the management role within a short 2 years span in which he has brought many successes to the company in areas of marketing strategy and implementation, content marketing and forging partnerships with relevant media, associations, governments and online portals.

As Head of Sales and Marketing, he plays a major strategic role in his current capacity, spearheading business development and corporate branding strategies. He is also responsible for ensuring sustainable revenue growth by constantly maximising market penetration through channels and services.

Lu Luan Chai

Head of R&D (Play-based Pedagogy)

Right from the start, Luan has a great passion for the Earth, the rivers, the cocoa trees, the caterpillars. Luan spent most of her childhood in nature. A former pharmacist, who has a great interest in Biology and Chemistry, never stopped learning, and she is finishing her Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Finland). Luan feels affection for children since a very tender age as the eldest in a family of 9 children.

Giving birth to her first child 11 years ago was the turning point. It was her first experience as a genuine carer in a foreign country where parents were honoured and supported to seek-find-make the knowledge she needed to make a fine job of parenting and educating their children. Luan’s parenting journey began by asking herself questions: “Are my children truly thriving? Are they enabled? Are they delighting in their learning?” Luan seeks to be inspired by many theories (In particular, Reggio Emilia or Loris Malaguzzi approach), activists, and people who think alike along the journey. Her love is in peace and reading, lead her to escape to nature with her favourite book. “One day, I will be reading my very own book.”

Luan says, “I am not the expert in play; CHILDREN are!”

In her current capacity as Head of R&D (Play-based), she is responsible for promoting the play-based learning environment in AZ Preschool. When playing, children may be organising, constructing, manipulating, exploring, interacting, imagining, and making sense of their worlds. This promotes the holistic development (physical, social, emotional, cognitive and creative) of a child, and depending on how it is utilised, may also support a broad range of literacy and numeracy skills. Knowing the importance of learning beyond classroom walls, she integrates outdoor activities as part of the children programme in A-Z. This involves planning on bringing children on learning trips, exposing them to outdoor activities, showing them the world outside their textbooks and understanding their future role in society.

Chan Phi Phe

Head of R&D (S.T.E.A.M.-based Learning)

A former scientist who holds a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Phi Phe has been working as a preschool educator & manager since 2007. Often described by peers and parents as a friendly, passionate and approachable preschool educator who can get down on the same level as children and coach them learning simple things, she is a firm believer in the Law of Attraction. Being positive, resilient, supportive and socially confident are the key philosophies in her life.

With her strong science background, Phi Phe specialises in S.T.E.A.M.-based learning, which aims to support and nurture children’s resourcefulness, intellectual curiosity, goal-setting, planning, problem-solving skills, team working skills, leadership skills and public speaking skills. She advocates children acquiring knowledge by asking questions!

Phi Phe believes in “Learning by Doing”. The best way to learn something is by actively doing it. It is her core belief both in life and throughout her role as an educator.

Joey Teo Chai Ling

Head of R&D (Montessori-based Pedagogy)

A principal of 3 Montessori schools, Joey is a qualified Montessori Consultant and Trainer who graduated from Montessori studies, UK. She regularly delivers talks, lectures and conducting workshops at various colleges (e.g. SEGI) and Montessori Association Malaysia (MAM).

Through her 19 years of extensive experience in Montessori education, she interprets Montessori as a spiritual/ peace education. Joey believes every child is a unique person with unlimited potential, and the drive to learn, the right to be treated with respect as an individual. The focus of Montessori education is on children’s learning and progress, not on Teacher’s teaching. Montessori provides an educational experience that goes beyond the classroom. It allows children to develop emotionally, spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, preparing them for school and life-long learning ability.

In her current capacity as the Head of R&D (Montessori-approach), she is responsible for effectively implementing and managing instruction and Montessori curriculum design through Montessori materials and pedagogy coaching. She focuses on the day-to-day implementation of the curriculum. She works with teachers to support and improve their instructional practices and adherence to the Montessori curriculum in producing a consistent learning experience. She oversees the development of all curricular initiatives, teachers training, and all aspects of Montessori-based Pedagogy.

Tina Tan Chi Ting

Head of HR & Administration

Holding a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with a double major in management and innovation marketing, Tina has a comprehensive understanding of management and professional practices.

In her current capacity as the Head of HR and Administration, she is acting as the first point of contact for HR-related queries from employees and external partners. Her primary administrative duties include maintaining personnel records, managing HR documents (e.g. employment records and onboarding guides) and updating internal databases. She supports management-level staff and reports to them regularly on HR metrics, such as company turnover. Ultimately, she also ensures the HR department supports the employees while conforming to labour laws.
